BURKHARDT+WEBER machining centre adds new dimension to aerospace manufacturing
One of the UK’s foremost aerospace component suppliers has just taken delivery of a new BURKHARDT+WEBER 5-axis horizontal machining centre.
The investment in the 1,600 x 1,250 x 1,250 mm capacity MCR 900 will provide vital additional operational flexibility to boost the manufacturer’s existing titanium machining capabilities.
Supplied by Geo Kingsbury’s Birmingham-based LPM division, the new machining centre will allow operations currently handled across a range of machining setups to be rationalised, with some aspects being combined to save time and deliver greater accuracy.
Generating a significant uplift in productivity as it comes into full production later this year, the machining centre will reduce not only cutting cycles but also non-machining intervals.
Alongside the versatility offered by the MCR900, the centralised engineering support offered by Geo Kingsbury, with access to ongoing applications advice, was a deciding factor in securing the order.
