Key advantages:

  • Highly precise and suitable for the high-tolerance parts found in the aerospace, medical and energy sectors.
  • Modern CNC controls and automated technologies help guarantee consistent part quality.
  • For cylindrical components, there is no method of manufacturing faster than a CNC lathe.
  • Versatile and efficient, reducing waste and costs.

We installed our first Traubs a decade ago and have been consistently impressed with the quality of build and high power of the spindles and live tooling as well as their reliability and productivity.

CNC Lathes FAQs

Are CNC lathes and turning centres the same thing?
Yes, and no. Both lathes and turning centres share the same core function: the automated rotation of material you intend to cut. Many consider machines with additional automated technologies to be turning centres, though the terms are often used interchangeably.
Is a CNC lathe or turning centre the right choice for me?
That depends! If you need to manufacture parts at a blistering rate, or you deal mostly with cylindrical components, then a lathe or turning centre could be for you. A Multi-Spindle would also be suitable for finding a competitive edge while maximising floor space. Speak to us if you’re not sure what type of machine is right for you.
Do I need a turret lathe, turning centre, sliding stock lathe, mill-turn, or Multi-Spindle?
The amount of choice when it comes to lathes can be overwhelming. We’d recommend telling a member of our expert team about your manufacturing processes, so we can better advise you.
Are CNC lathes suitable for small and intricate machining?
Yes! Lathes were popularised in the watchmaking industry, where small and complex components needed to be made to incredibly high tolerances. Since then, lathes have come a long way in terms of automation and productivity, but their core focus on accuracy has remained.
